What is the African Urban Futures Conclave?
The African Urban Futures Conclave (AUFC) is a curated platform bringing together leaders, practitioners and institutions shaping the future of African cities. It convenes voices from architecture, urban planning, government, finance, infrastructure, technology, academia, culture and civil society to develop practical, locally grounded responses to Africa’s urban challenges and possibilities
What is the purpose of the Conclave?
AUFC has been created to move the conversation about African cities beyond diagnosis and towards coordinated action. The Conclave will examine how leadership, design, finance, policy, enterprise and civic participation can work together to create African cities that are more dignified, inclusive, resilient and responsive to the people who inhabit them.
What makes AUFC different from a conventional conference?
AUFC is intentionally designed as a working conclave rather than a large-scale conference. Participation is curated, the gathering is limited in size, and the programme prioritises meaningful dialogue, cross-sector relationships and concrete outcomes. Alongside plenary sessions, participants will engage in focused roundtables, Urban Futures Labs, leadership dialogues and carefully facilitated networking.
Is attendance open to everyone?
AUFC is a curated gathering with a limited number of places. Some participants will attend by invitation, while a selected number of places will be made available through registration or an expression-of-interest process. Submitting an expression of interest does not automatically confirm participation. Successful applicants will receive formal confirmation and further registration instructions.
How many people will attend?
AUFC 2026 is being designed for approximately 120–150 participants. This deliberately limited size will support deeper conversations, stronger relationships and more productive exchanges
What is the format of the programme?
The three-day programme will combine conveners’ and keynote addresses, plenary conversations, Leadership and Governance Dialogues, Urban Futures Labs and roundtables, cross-sector working sessions, curated business and institutional meetings, cultural and city-based experiences, and opportunities for informal exchange and collaboration. A detailed programme will be released closer to the Conclave.
What is the dress code?
The recommended dress code is professional, contemporary and suitable for Accra’s warm climate with comfortable footwear. Specific guidance will be provided for any formal dinners, cultural experiences or site visits included in the programme.
Can I apply to speak or contribute to the programme?
The majority of speakers and contributors are identified and invited by the curatorial team. However, expressions of interest may be considered where the proposed contribution is directly relevant to the programme. AUFC does not guarantee speaking opportunities in exchange for sponsorship or delegate registration.
